January 13, 2018 VSD Dance Report

39 members and 17 guests, a total of 56 dancers!

Our Caryl Creason gave a line dance lesson in waltz, cha cha and quick step. Members and guests participated in the lesson with enthusiasm. I hoped line dance would encourage and create opportunity for dancers without a partner to step out of their comfort zone to join the line dance. Special thanks to Caryl!!
Our music queen, Cheryl, selected a variety of music and by 10 pm, 40 songs were played for our pleasure! In case you are not aware, that was a record breaking evening. We danced every form of ballroom dances more than once!!

Traditionally, we install a new president and treasurer. Manuel Madril and Shane Nielson volunteered to continue another year of service. Instead of a formal installation, we thanked both of them for their service. Manuel was out of town, but we were able to thank Shane at the dance.

We were so fortunate to have two performances to entertain us:

-
Sallie Holden and Tim Inouye danced a Viennese waltz. It was a complicated dance, as they swiftly danced the figures of Hesitations, Hovers, Passing Changes, Natural and Reverse Turns, Flickers, and Pivots. The Dead Drop at the end of dance took our breath away.
-
Carol and David Bixler danced a Tango. We felt their strong connection with each other and the music! Carol’s hand motions projected their feelings and perfected the dance. It was impressive and fun to watch. Thank you for sharing the joy of dancing with us!

It was a fun dance, full of energy and camaraderie. Thanks to all of you who came out on a cold and foggy evening to dance with us. See you at the next dance!
